Inception comes out on DVD December 7th. WooT!
For those of you who don’t know what Inception is…Well have you been living under a rock???
I’m pretty positive that anyone who knows me knows that my favorite movie of all time is Star Wars. (I group Episode 4, 5 and 6 together as one since if I didn’t my top 3 movies on my all time list would be all SW and that just wouldn’t be fair.) It’s very difficult for a movie to make it on to my Top Ten Movies of All Time. (Yes I really do have one. Shut up don’t judge me) That being said…Inception was so totally a$$ kicking awesome that it did crack my top ten list. It was SO a$$ kicking good that it now stands at #2 on my list.
As soon as I saw the trailer for Inception, I knew it looked good, interesting and different. I wasn’t able to see it as soon as it came out in theaters so I heard a lot of reviews online and from word of mouth. (I threatened all with death if they ruined the ending for me) Many compared it to the Matrix (but this is way better!) Most people were RAVING about it. Now usually when I hear a movie is awesome my expectations get really high and then when I see it, I end up being totally disappointed.
This was not the case with Inception.
This movie, directed by Christopher Nolan from the successful re-launch of the Batman franchise was original (really hard to find these days), creative, and above all- thought provoking. There are so many different levels to this movie it is ridiculous. And let’s not even mention the incredible special effects. (Nolan didn’t use CGI and instead made the actors be on actual rotating sets to make it look more real.) A million percent this should be nominated for an Oscar.
The acting was EXCELLENT. I believe this to be Leonardo DiCaprio’s best work to date and that is saying a lot since he has such an impressive body of work. In fact, if he doesn’t get nominated and WIN an Oscar for this movie I will be really disappointed. But then again anything that remotely has to do with science fiction never gets recognized by the snotty, dumber than dirt Academy.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt also really impressed me with his character. The crazy stunts that his character Arthur did were like WHOA! Crazy and impressive.
The only criticism that I heard from people was that it was hard to follow and confusing. Some even said it was boring. To that I say…For Realz??? I just don’t get it. The movie shows the team having different strategy sessions in which they explain what is going on (or will occur), as well as each individual level has a different setting. So I’m not really sure how one cannot follow along with the plot. Don’t get me wrong. There are things that I missed. This is definitely one of those movies that you can watch a few times to further your understanding of it. In fact if you don’t watch it more than once, then I think there may be something wrong with you.
For a movie that took over ten years to make, this is of the utmost excellence. So if you haven’t seen it, make sure to get it on Dec. 7th. AND if you can…get it in Blu-Ray. Then watch it and come talk to me because I have many, many different thoughts on it!
LOVED the movie, too, Tara! I appreciate your review on it. What did you think of how it ended, though?
